At this time of year, our feathered friends need a little extra help getting food. The ground is often cold and frozen, the trees and bushes bare of fruit. So, what could be better than have them visit your very own bird café.
This is a fab, easy but great activity for your children that will recycle those empty milk cartons and put your little ones creative skills into overdrive. You will need:
A large plastic milk carton
Permanent marker pens
Scissors or craft knife
Piece of dowel, a small twig or lolly stick
String
Bird seed
Instructions
Give the milk carton a good wash out with soapy water and let it dry.
Use the scissors or craft knife to create a door. (I did this in advance of giving it to the child.)
Pierce a hole underneath the door and poke through your dowel, twig or lolly stick. This makes a little perch for your visitors.
Now is the time for your little ones to decorate the outside of the café.
Poke holes in the lid top and thread through some coloured string.
Add the bird seed to the inside of the container and find a great site to hang up the café
Prepare for your little ones to sit quietly at the window as they wait for their feathered friends to pay a visit to their bird café. Win, win!!
