A few weeks ago, I was privileged to meet Sidney, he was a guest at a birthday party that we were hosting in the wood. This incredible young man was one of the first to arrive and as he entered Hopyard, his first words to me were “what can I do to help?” There were still a few things to do, so we chatted as he helped me put up the hammocks and set out the activities.
Very quickly, I realised that Sidney not only loved being out and interacting with nature, he was fiercely protective and passionate about saving her from destruction. His mother told me how he had cried for days at the cutting down of trees in his local area to make way for a Lidl.
The more I talked to Sidney and those around him, the more I realised he has a voice that needs to be heard. At such a young age, I believe that he has the commitment and passion needed to reach other children and inspire them to also take up custodianship for our green spaces. After all, the future belongs to them not us.
I was gutted to find out that Sidney doesn’t live locally but I was determined not to lose his dedication and enthusiasm for nature conservation, I wanted his presence and input at Hopyard Wood. I decided that I needed to, in some small way help get Sidneys message out to his peers.
Whilst I don’t see myself trending or becoming an influencer anytime soon, I do have my own website and social media platforms (again not the biggest). I do have a bit of the worldwide web to call my own and I am planning on sharing a small piece of that space with Sidney.
So, really this is just a trailer of what is to come as Sidney prepares to share his love of nature, his journey, commitment and mission to protect her. I am so excited to offer him his own blog to deliver his message in whatever way he feels called to.
Welcome to the team Sidney, it’s going to be fun!!
